Spiritual Principles for Now and Eternity - Proverbs 10-12 and II Corinthians 4
The book of Proverbs is filled with godly wisdom that applies to all of life. Many of the principles are truths to help us live our everyday lives, in such a way as to honor the Lord and to live according to His will. There are earthly blessings that are associated with these spiritual principles. "A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother." That is so true, and it should lead us in our lives everyday. This applies to all of the principles of telling the truth, loving each other, being honest, speaking wisely, working hard, and even being humble. There are direct earthly blessings for living according to God's truth.
However, there are godly principles that have eternal blessings, too. We read some of them in Proverbs, but we see more of them in the New Testament. There are several in II Corinthians 4. By not being deceitful with the Word of God and sharing the Gospel, we allow people to see Jesus in what we say and do. This leads them to eternal life. Our lives effect their eternity. Even as we suffer hardships and our physical bodies are dying, we can live in the power of Christ. That shows others the reality of Christ's resurrection, so they can be saved. By not giving up on the Lord, but serving Him humbly all of our earthly lives, we are laying the groundwork for our lives in heaven for eternity. What we do here does effect our eternity, too. Therefore, we do not live every day just for the present, but we are to live it with eternity in mind. We are to live in the visible realm with our eyes on the invisible, because what we can't see now is more real and lasting than what we can see with our physical eyes. Let's set our hearts on living for Jesus and living for eternity, both ours and the eternity of those around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 13-15 and II Corinthians 5.
