Man's Plans and God's Will - Proverbs 16-18 and II Corinthians 6
All of us tend to make plans for the future. Sometimes those plans are in line with God's will and sometimes, they are not. Many of the proverbs warn us about this. We may plan with our hearts, but the Lord directs our steps. He knows the best way, and we don't. If we go according to our hearts, we can miss His will. The way that seems right to man leads to destruction, so we don't want to go that way, do we? The only way to have our plans work out is to be willing to change them, when God shows us His way. We must not be set on our plans, but on finding God's will. His way will not bring destruction, but it will bring fulfillment.
In II Corinthians 6 we read that the Corinthian believers were choosing to be yoked together with unbelievers. Paul told them to stop doing that. It could have been in business or in marriage, but it was not good. Why did the Lord give Paul that counsel for them? A believer can't have fellowship with an unbeliever. They can't really agree on the truth and do God's will together. Therefore, they should not be joined together for business or in marriage. If they are, they will not do God's will, but they will have to compromise in some way. We have all seen this situation before. A believer goes into business with an unbeliever, and they can't agree. They had big plans, but it did not work out. Also, we have a seen a believer marry an unbeliever, thinking they would change the other person, but it doesn't work that way. We can make plans, but they lead to destruction. We must make sure we follow God's will and not our own plans.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 19-21 and II Corinthians 7.
