The Peaks and Valleys of Life - Psalms 10-12 and Acts 19:1-20
All of us can relate to the writer of these psalms, because it seems like the evil people are taking over our world. It seems that if something is not done soon, they will destroy all of the believers. It is easy to lose hope and to be tempted to give up, because it is hard to see the criminals prosper and the honest people oppressed. That is what I mean by being in a valley in our lives. We feel so far down that we can't see what God is doing around us. In times like these we need to cry out to God even more like the psalmist did. We need to trust that God is working around us. He is constantly working His plan, and He will not let the wicked people succeed. He will reward the righteous. I believe God allows these valleys to see if we will trust Him even when we do not receive any outward benefits. Like the case of Job, God wants to prove that we are not serving Him for the blessings, but just because He is God.
Then, there are the Peaks of life, the mountaintops. Paul had one of those in Ephesus. God came in a mighty way. Souls were saved. People were healed. The whole region of Asia heard the Gospel in a short time. God won the battles, instead of the evil people winning. The truth is that God can do more in 10 minutes than we can do in 10 years. That is why we must remember the peaks of life, when we are in the valleys. We must never lose hope, because we serve an All-powerful, All-Wise God, who always does the right thing. I am sure that is what sustained Paul in his times in prison, and it should sustain us through the valleys of life. We can never tell when the valley will end, and we will find ourselves climbing a peak, enjoying the things we can see God doing all around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 13-15 and Acts 19:21-41.
