Doing the Works of God - I Chronicles 25-27 and John 9:1-23
Each believer has a job in God's kingdom. I hope you have found yours, because you can't be fulfilled in life unless you use your spiritual gifts to fulfill your God-given responsibilities. Many believers have not learned this truth, and they can't understand why their lives do not have satisfaction. Real satisfaction comes form doing the work of God, not from earthly endeavors. Many believers are so busy with earthly things they reject doing the work of God. They convince themselves that the work is to be done by other people. This is a false belief, and it leads to an unhappy life. How can we expect to live in faith if we never do what God has for us to do? Where is the faith? Faith is trusting God. It is doing what He tells us to do, and He has something for each of us.
These chapters in I Chronicles are a great example of this truth. Notice the organization of Israel. Notice how many people were involved in God's work in one way or another. There were 288 designated singers to prophesy through music. That was their God-given work. They proclaimed His Word through music while praising Him and thanking Him, too. The gatekeepers provided security. It may not sound as spiritual, but it was very important. Then, there was the military, and the other members of David's cabinet and staff. Each one had a job, and they had people working with them. What has God gifted you to do? What has He told you to do? Are you so busy you are trying to get out of it? That is a big mistake. We must do the work of God first.
Jesus told the Jewish leaders in John 9 that He had to work the works of Him who sent Him. That's amazing! Even Jesus was a servant of the Father. His life was centered on doing the work of God. He healed the man who was born blind, because that was a work that the Father wanted Him to do. It was a great miracle. Jesus worked miracles for God. Many of us will not ever do miracles like seeing a blind person healed. Does that mean that our lives are not as important? No, we are very important. It takes all of us working together to do the work of God. If one of us fails, it hurts the kingdom. I urge all of us to have the same mind as Jesus. Realize that we are here to work the works of God. Find what He wants you to do and do it faithfully.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 28-29 and John 9:24-41.
