The Army of God - I Chronicles 10-12 and John 6:45-71
David was a great king, who loved the Lord, but he did not accomplish God's will by himself. He had a great army of people who gathered around him to help him accomplish God's will. It is amazing to read the names and accounts of his mighty men. We get a picture that the whole time he was having to run from Saul, God was adding to the numbers of these leaders, these warriors. Then, when David became king, he had a great army to do God's will. That is how God wants it to be in the church, too. There is no one person or small group of people who can do all that needs to be done in God's kingdom. He wants all of us to be come mighty warriors for Him spiritually and follow our leader into the spiritual battles. Victory comes through unity and everyone doing his or her part.
We see this in John 6, too. Jesus gave a message in which He told them in spiritual language they needed to eat His body and drink His blood. It threw off a lot of people because they thought He was speaking literally. Then, He turned to His disciples and asked if they would leave, too. They said no. They were ready to go on with the Lord. Do you realize that the mission of Jesus was dependent to some degree on those 11 believing disciples? If they had not become leaders and warriors for the Lord, the message of the Gospel would not have been spread. That was the Great Commission to them and to us. Jesus died and arose for our sins, and now we are God's army to spread the news. If we fail to obey our leader, the mission will not be accomplished. Do you see your importance in this? If you are a believer, God wants you to become a mighty spiritual warrior and to be a part of defeating Satan's forces to spread the Gospel to the whole world. It is not just the mission of a few. It is for us all.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 13-15 and John 7:1-27.
