November 4, 2006 - Jeremiah 32-33 and Hebrews 1

If we want to see God work in great and powerful ways, we must be willing to act on what He is telling us to do. That is what Jeremiah had learned, and that is what he did in this passage. I pray that his story is an encouragement to all of us to do the same.

In Jeremiah 32 we read about how God told Jeremiah to buy a field, even though the Babylonians were in the process of taking over the land, and Jeremiah knew the exile would last 70 years. He went ahead and obeyed God, thus showing that God would bring the people back to the land in the future and showing the faith of Jeremiah. (v.8b,15) However, then as we read about Jeremiah's prayer at the end of the chapter, we realize that he did not even completely understand why God wanted him to do that at that time. He was simply obedient to what God asked him to do, even though he did not understand. We all need to learn that lesson. That is the only way we will ever see the great and mighty things God wants to do for us. (33:3) God responds to faith. Faith is not just a feeling, but it is action based on what we know God has told us. How is your faith today?

Then, in Hebrews 1 we read about the ultimate revelation of God, Jesus Christ. Though He was the Creator of the universe, He cared for us so much that He came to die for us. He was not an angel or a lesser god. He was and is God. His greatest work of power and might was becoming a man, so He could provide for our salvation. Do you have faith in Him? If so, what have you done, and what are you doing to show that faith?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 34-36 and Hebrews 2.
