September 24, 2006 - Song of Solomon 4-5 and Galatians 3
It is so evident that Solomon and his wife love each other. As we read their descriptions of each other and the compliments they give each other, it is so clear that they respect each other and admire each other. They enjoy being with each other, and they desire to spent intimate time together. Is that how it is for you and your spouse? Even more, is that how it is with you and Jesus? Remember, love is not just a feeling that magically appears and disappears. Love is a choice, and the feelings follow the choice. Think about it. Are you glad Jesus loves you? If love was just a fleeting feeling, He might not have that feeling for you, and you would be left out. However, He chose to love everyone, and no one is beyond the scope of His love. (John 3:16) He is waiting for each person to choose to return that love to Him.
In Galatians 5 Paul reminds us that salvation is by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law. In fact, the law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. In Greek this word does not mean "tutor." It means a person who brought the child to the teacher and made sure the child listened and learned. That is what the law does for us. It shows us that we have sinned, and we need a Savior. It causes us to consider that Jesus is the only way for our sins to be forgiven, because we can't do anything to take away our own sins. It leads us to salvation by grace through faith in Christ, who died for us. We all need Jesus. Do you know Him in the forgiveness of sin today? Is He your Lord and the Love of your life? He wants to be, but it is up to you to put your faith in Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8 and Galatians 4.
