September 16, 2006 - Proverbs 25-26 and II Corinthians 9
It is a great encouragement for me to think about Jesus and Paul studying Proverbs and other parts of the Bible just like we do today. Have you ever thought about that? Look at Proverbs 25:6-7. Doesn't that remind you of the parable Jesus told? It should. How did He come up with that parable? I believe it came from the wisdom of Solomon. I know He gave Solomon his wisdom in the first place, but think of what the other people thought when they heard that parable. They knew the Proverbs. They knew Jesus was referring to this passage. I believe it made an even greater impact on them for that reason. Then, look at Proverbs 25:21-22. Did you know that is where Paul got his teaching in Romans? It is the wisdom of Solomon. He learned it in his studies, and then, God inspired him to share it with us again. Do you realize that is one reasons we study the Bible? We are to pass it on to others, too.
II Corinthians 9 continues on the subject of giving. It has several very significant truths. When we give a lot God is able to bless us a lot. (v.6) However, God loves a cheerful giver. (v.7) That word actually means hilarious, or to laugh out loud. We should truly enjoy giving and get a kick out of it. Then, God will make His grace abound to us, so we have plenty of money to keep meeting other needs as well as our own. Do you see the picture? We become a conduit for God's gifts. If we keep giving His money according to His will, He will keep sending us more, since He knows we will obey Him and use His money as He pleases. However, the opposite is true, too. People are correct when they say that you can't out give God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 27-29 and II Corinthians 10.
