August 2, 2006 - Psalms 60-62 and Romans 5
God knows us so well, and He loves us so much that He has thought of everything we need for our lives. He has provided all of those things in one way or another. We must go to Him in faith to receive the things we need in life, or else we will go without. Let's think about some of those things from the reading today.
Psalm 60 speaks of being restored. (v.1) We all fail, so we all need restoration at times. Being defeated and confused is painful. (v.3) We don't like to admit defeat because of our pride and other reasons. However, to be restored we must put aside our pride and confess our sins and our need for God. Then, He will gladly restore us to full fellowship with Him. Are you in need of restoration today?
In Psalm 61 David is overwhelmed. (v.2) He needs some stability. So he asks God to lead him to the rock that is higher than he is. The Rock is Jesus. He is the only one who can relieve our overwhelmed condition by supplying mercy and truth as well as giving strength for the everyday priorities of life. (v.6-7) Are you feeling overwhelmed?
Psalm 62 tells us that David is waiting silently upon the Lord. (V.1,5) He is waiting for God to speak before he moves ahead. That way he will go in the right direction, which is God's direction. Often, silence is hard for us and waiting is almost impossible, but there are times when we need to wait silently, so we can hear from God. David heard from God, because of his silent waiting. (v.11) Do you need to wait silently?
Romans 5 mentions several of these life needs. The first one is access to God. This access comes through faith in Christ, so if you don't know Christ, you don't have complete access to God. However, many Christians don't use the access they have gained through salvation. They never go to the throne of God to have an audience with the Most High. Do you need access today? Maybe, you need reconciliation. (v.10-11) This too comes through knowing Christ. We are made to be friends with God because Christ introduces us. However, there are many who have not kept their relationship current. God is only a distant friend. They don't talk any more. They do not receive His counsel and support. Do you need reconciliation? The rest of the chapter explains that Jesus died so all men could have these things as a free gift. (v.18) They are available, but each person must receive them by faith and use them. They are like Christmas presents. You can accept them or reject them, but they have been provided freely. Once you have received them, you can use them, or you can store them away and forget about them. What are you doing with these precious gifts from God to meet our needs?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 63-65 and Romans 6.
