May 26, 2006 - I Chronicles 28-29 and John 9:24-41
I love reading God's Word. It is always so fresh and clear. Yes, there are things that I don't understand, but there are many more things that are so understandable. Don't focus on what is unclear. One day, you will come to see what it means. Focus on what the Lord shows you today. He is showing it to you for a reason.
Chapter 28 tells us how David commissioned Solomon to take over the kingdom and to build the Temple of the Lord. The details are marvelous. David makes several things very clear. God would bless Solomon if he would remain true to Him and to His Word. (v.7) David told Solomon in front of everyone to "know God" and to serve Him. (v.9) Isn't that great! David did not push a religion, but a relationship. He showed his own relationship with God by telling everyone that the Spirit had given him the plans for the Temple. (v.12) These plans were very detailed, and he wrote them down. (v.19) David knew that God was going to bless the work and to bless Solomon until the Temple was finished. (v.20) How did he know all of these things? He had an intimate love relationship with the Lord that was real and personal. I pray that each of you have that type of relationship with Jesus today.
Chapter 29 shows how David gave personally to the building of the Temple. Then, the leaders gave their offerings too, before all of the people gave. This is a good pattern for us today. They all gave willingly with rejoicing. It was not a burden, but a pleasure to be a part of God's work. David exhorted them to bless the Lord, and they did. (v.20) I would urge all of us to stop and bless the Lord for all He has given us and for our ability to give tithes and offerings back to Him. It all belongs to Him anyway. Let's rejoice in His good blessing to us.
John 9 completes the story of the blind man being healed. Did you notice the details in this part of the account? Look at how the blind man gave a clear testimony of his healing, and he would not say anything bad about Jesus. (v.25,27) This frustrated the Jewish leaders. They did not know what to say. Then, the blind man set them straight. He said that they all knew that God does not hear sinners, so Jesus could not have been a sinner after doing such a great miracle. (v.31-32) This was the last straw for the Jewish leaders. They would not listen to him, but they cast him out of the synagogue. Then, Jesus came back to the blind man He had healed. He told him that He was the Lord, and the healed man believed in Jesus as Lord. Isn't that a wonderful ending! The blind man can now see physically and spiritually. The Jewish leaders who claim to see spiritually are declared to be blind by Jesus. Everyone around could clearly see the power and the truth of Jesus. Only those who refused to see could miss what was being said and done here. God is so good to be clear. I know He has clearly shown Himself to you, too. Have you given your life to Him? I urge you to do so, today.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles1-3 and John 10:1-23.
