May 25, 2006 - I Chronicles 25-27 and John 9:1-23
The work of the Lord is hard work. Keeping the house of the Lord requires a lot of people. Many people are involved in the worship of God. Being good stewards of God's money is very important. This passage deals with all of these areas of God's work. I know it is a lot of names to read, but don't get bogged down in the names, see the many people who were involved in God's work and think of all that they did. Then, realize the same is true today in a church. If it is not a team effort, the work does not get done well.
Chapter 25 speaks of the musicians who "prophesied" through music. (v.1,3) That means they "spoke forth" the Word of the Lord using music. It was not just music for the sake of having music. It was another means to express God's Word and to give Him praise and thanks. I hope that we all realize this about music in the church today. It is not just a fill in. It is not just songs. It is God's Word being proclaimed. We should receive His Word through music, and we should express our praise and thanks to Him through music.
Chapters 26 and 27 give the names of all of the leaders who were gatekeepers, those over the treasury, the military divisions for the king's service, and the leaders of the people. Why did it take so many people to lead? That is human nature. When you have a large number of people, there are a lot of tasks that must be done. It takes a lot of leaders on all levels to accomplish these tasks. The work of the Lord is the same way. Without people being willing to step up and use the gifts God has given them to do His work, things just don't get done. It is not God's fault, because He has supplied the gifted people. It is our fault, and we will be held accountable.
Jesus works another sign or miracle in John 9. He heals a man who had been blind from birth. The Jewish leaders wanted to explain away His power, but they could not explain away this miracle. They could only complain that it was done on the Sabbath. They even said that Jesus was not from God, because He did not keep the Sabbath the way they thought He should. They missed the love and power of Jesus, because of their selfish pride. They were focused on the wrong thing. They were fighting against God, instead of believing Him. I pray that you can see how much Jesus loves you. I pray that you know there is nothing He can't do for you. I hope you will believe and turn to Him today to receive salvation or whatever you need. He is there for you.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 9:24-41.
