July 8 - Proverbs 22,23
Reading the book of Proverbs would help so many people, if they would just believe it and practice what it says. These two chapters are a good example of that fact. Let's just walk through these verses and see how they apply to life today.
We should be living to have a good reputation, and we should be seeking to have the favor of the people around us instead of living for money. If we are prudent, we will be able to see evil before it comes. Yes, we might be able to acquire riches without humility and the fear of the Lord, but we can't have honor, life, and riches without them. It is our own responsibility to train up our children by showing them and telling them how to live in God's wisdom. When our children act foolishly, we should spank them in an appropriate way to drive out the foolishness. We must be careful not to form a close friendship with an angry person, because he or she will drag us down, too. We should seek to excel in our line of work.
Don't overwork to be rich. Your money will only fly away. Watch what you say to a fool, because he or she will not listen to God's wisdom. In the case of our children, we must punish them or they are in danger of ending up in Hell. Don't hang out with drunkards and gluttons. They will drag you down, too. Live in such a way that your earthly father will be proud of you. Stay away from wine and strong drink. They will bring sorrow in many ways.
Now, who would not benefit from living by these truths today? I know we would all benefit, but we must apply our hearts to God's wisdom.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 24 and 25.
