July 3 - Proverbs 12,13
Several of the verses in these chapters reminded me that God blesses us in line with His character. God is eternal. Therefore, one of His blessings is to give us a longer life on earth or to give us a steady permanence in our lives. On the other hand, God punishes the wicked by overthrowing their plans and causing their lives to be change suddenly. Have you noticed this in your life? Those who do not live by God's wisdom seem to be in a turmoil all the time. There is one thing after another that comes to disrupt their lives. However, we have all seen people who have lived quiet lives of steady permanence for years and years. That is a great blessing from God for living by His wisdom.
Proverbs 12:25 is so important today. There is so much anxiety and stress, and there is so much depression. What we need is to cease from worry and to concentrate on the positive blessings of life. This will bring some gladness and help put an end to the depression. Also, Proverbs 13:10 tells us that pride brings strife. If we would refuse to act in pride, it would reduce a lot of our stress, too. Pride leads us to selfishness. It leads us to not listen to the counsel of others. It is very destructive, but many people live in pride all the time.
For the parents and grandparents I urge you to consider proverbs 13:24. We live in a world where corporal punishment is disdained, but it should be used. It has a place because of how God designed us. What is worse, a spanking when we are young, or God's punishment, when we are older?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 14 and 15.
