The Most Humble Person on Earth
I don't think most people today really understand what it means to be humble. It doesn't mean that a person is not smart or able to do great things. It doesn't mean that a humble person has to think less of himself or herself than they should. To be humble is to know that we can't do anything on our own without God's power and direction. To be humble is to give God all of the thanks and praise for everything we do. Therefore, a very capable person can be a very humble person, too.
Moses is a great example of this. He was used by God to stand up to Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler in the world. Then, he led 2 million people out of Egypt and through the wilderness. He was inspired to write the first 5 books of the Bible. (Numbers 12:3) Yet the Bible tells us that Moses was very humble - more humble than any other person on earth. What a tribute! It was not just a great compliment. It was completely true.
However, Moses was not the most humble person to ever walk on the earth. That title goes to Jesus. He was God who became a man. He totally submitted to the Father, and humbled Himself to death on the cross. (Philippians 2:5-11) He came to be a servant, not a king. He loved everyone, even the tax collectors and the sinners. Jesus was able to do the greatest miracles ever done on this earth, and He did it at the direction of the Father. He was trying to point everyone to the Father and His kingdom.
In that same passage we are exhorted to have the same mind or attitude that Jesus had. It should be the goal of every Christian to be the most humble person on earth right now. It should be our goal to give all the glory for everything we do to the Lord. We might do many things well, but we must realize and confess that we could never do anything without the Lord. If we will do that, we will be very pleasing to God and useful in His kingdom.
