Hating the Manna
God is so good to take care of our needs. He does this in many ways for both believers and unbelievers. The Bible assures us that God sends the rain upon the just and the unjust. Jesus told us that God feeds the birds of the field, and people are of much greater worth than the birds, since we are made in God's image. God even clothes us better than the beautiful flowers. However, many of us are not content with what God gives us. We prefer our desires above His wise provision.
The Israelites began to complain against God and Moses again. (Numbers 21:5) They asked Moses why he had brought them out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, even though they had failed to trust God and enter the Promised Land. They told Moses that there was nothing to eat or drink. Then, they exclaimed that they hated "this horrible manna." They were very discontent, and they lashed out at God so badly that He had to punish them severely.
After all, God had given them the miracle of manna that was fresh every morning, and it was delicious and nutritious. He had constantly supplied all of the people with water from the Rock. The book of Hebrews tells us that the Rock was Jesus. God was leading them through the wilderness, and later we are told that their shoes and their clothes never wore out in the 40 year journey. However, they hated God's provision, and they were angry with God even though they had sinned, and He had been so good to them. I am afraid there are many people in the same situation today.
We need to take a look at life and what is really important, like Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. Life is not about what we eat and what we drink and what we wear. Life is about loving the Lord and others. It is about being thankful to God for saving us and being such a Good Father. Life is about eternal things like relationships with other believers and doing God's will for us. Let's stop looking at the wrong things and hating God's manna. Let's be content and strive for godliness. Then, we will have His joy and peace.
