Transformed from Glory to Glory

As Christians, we are sanctified when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This means we are set apart from the world, and we are set apart to Jesus. However, after our salvation, we are to continue to become more like Jesus all of the time until we get to heaven. That process is called "progression sanctification." Each of us have a part in this process which is very important.

The apostle Paul gives us insight into how this progressive sanctification takes place in our lives. (II Corinthians 3:18) Once we have the veil of sin lifted from our eyes in salvation, we begin beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, and we are transformed into the image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord. In this verse we see both parts of the process of progressive sanctification and how it works to bring us to where we ought to be.

Our part is to behold the glory of the Lord. We do this by reading God's Word and seeing the Lord Jesus in all of His glory, as He taught people, healed people, and cast out the evil spirits. In each case we behold His glory, and we submit to the Holy Spirit, asking Him to transform us into what we see in Jesus. It is like looking into a mirror and seeing Jesus, and then we are being changed into what we see.

The Spirit does this in stages as we read the Bible and meditate on what we see in Jesus. We are changed from one level of glory to the next level of glory. Or to say it another way, each time we are changed into another aspect of Christ's glory, we move up to a new level. This process continues as long as we are beholding His glory and submitting to the Spirit to change us into that glory which we have seen.
