Having an Abundance for Every Good Work
Some people have a very serious problem with being stingy. They just can't find it in their hearts to let go of their money. I am not talking so much about being greedy for more money. I am talking about not wanting to give their money to others and to good causes, even if that is what they ought to do. They even have trouble giving nice birthday or Christmas gifts to loved ones and friends. This shows a huge heart problem.
God wants us to overcome being stingy. He wants us to see that His grace is sufficient in the area of giving, too. (II Corinthians 9:8) God is able to make all grace abound toward us, that we will always have all sufficiency in all things, and we can have an abundance for every good work. Some people misunderstand this verse, but if we understand it correctly, it will cure us from being stingy. Let's take a minute to see what God is saying.
We have to see the verse in context to understand it correctly. Paul is talking about giving a generous gift to support the poor believers in Judea, who had lost their families and jobs when they became Christians. He is saying that if they gave as God directed them to give in a cheerful, generous way that God would make sure they had plenty of money for every good work. They would not run out, because God's grace would supply more for them.
So this verse doesn't mean we will have all of the money we need for everything we want. It means that if we will listen to Him and use our money to do His will in giving gifts to people and to good causes, He will give us an abundance for every good work. He will make us a conduit for His resources get to the right place. He will make sure there is plenty, so we don't ever have to be stingy. We can trust God to be faithful. I have seen this truth come to reality many times in my life. He will do the same for you, too.
