The Lord Our Righteousness
Most of us have more than one name. I am named after my grandfathers, so I am John Stanley Jordan. I never really had a nickname, but some people have referred to me as "Stan the Man" which was what they called the great St. Louis Cardinal's first baseman, Stan Musial. Each name has a meaning or a reason for being given. That is what makes a name special. The same is true for the names of Jesus, and He has a lot of names.
At the time of the Second Coming of Jesus, the Jewish people will finally see that He is the Lord, the promised Messiah. They will put their trust in Him for their salvation, and Jesus will rule over the earth for 1,000 years. (Jeremiah 23:6) In those days Judah and Israel will be saved and dwell in safety. At that time His name will be called "The Lord Our Righteousness." This is a great name for the Perfect Son of God. Let's consider it for a moment.
Jesus is eternally righteous. He never sinned, even when He was on earth as the God/Man. It was because of His righteousness that He could give His life as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. If He would have had one sin, He would have deserved to die, since the wages of sin is death. Praise the Lord, Jesus never sinned, so we can be set free from the power of sin through His sacrifice and the gift of salvation by grace through faith in Him.
Now that we are Christians, we are to live righteous lives. We are to be like Jesus. However, all of our righteousness is as filthy rags, so He gives us His righteousness. Then, we can be like Him by allowing the Holy Spirit to mold us into His image. So Jesus is literally, "The Lord Our Righteousness." He is Lord of all, and He is our righteousness once we are saved.
