Like a Burning Fire

The Word of God is likened to a lot of things. It is like a light and a lamp to show us the way to go and to dispel the darkness of this world.  It is a hammer with which we can break up what is false. Of course, it is our sword, too. It is our weapon to use against Satan and his demons so they have to flee from us. It is our food, so that we can grow spiritually. However, there is one thing about God's Word that we don't mention as much.

Jeremiah was a prophet of God called to share the words of God which God spoke to His heart. Jeremiah got in trouble for sharing God's words because the evil people did not like what God was telling them. (Jeremiah 20:9) So Jeremiah decided he would not mention God, nor speak in His name anymore. However, God's Word was in his heart like a burning fire shut up in his bones. Soon he wearied of trying to hold it back, and he just couldn't hold it in any longer. It is very hard to keep a fire contained.

Once we know the Word of God, it helps us grow in the Lord. It shows us the way to live, and it protects us from the advances of Satan. However, we just can't keep it shut up in our hearts and minds. It is something that we must share with other people. It burns in us so much that we need to spread the flame to others, so they can experience the Lord like we have. I am sure we, as believers, have all had this experience at one time or another.

The problem is that sometimes we are like Jeremiah. We think that if we share God's Word other people will laugh at us or insult us. So, we decide not to mention the Lord or speak for Him anymore. That is a terrible sin. When we decide to withdraw, the Spirit will convict us of our sin, and God's Word will burn in our bones until we let it out. I pray that we will feed upon the meat of God's Word, and let it flow from our lips, so others can come to Christ and know the truth for themselves. We must never hold back.
