Getting Our Directions for Life

A lot of people just try to figure out life as they go. In high school they decide what they will do about going to college or what kind of job they will begin. Then, comes the big decision about marriage and having a family, They do the best they can when troubles come, but they have no real idea about the best directions to take on all of these things. That is why so many people are miserable and have broken marriages and families. We need help from God.

Jeremiah realized this truth as he was being led by the Lord, and as he saw all of the people of God doing the wrong things. (Jeremiah 10:23) He prayed to the Lord and confessed to Him that he knew the way of man is not in himself, and it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. We all need to come to that conclusion as soon as possible, and we need to teach this to our children and grandchildren.

We do not know ourselves that well. We might think we know all of our strengths and weaknesses, but usually we are not objective when it comes to judging ourselves. We see things in a slanted way that is usually not correct. For believers, we do not know our spiritual gifts, unless we take time to assess what God has given us. If we don't know how God has gifted us, how can we know what we ought to do and how to do it? See what I mean, we need God's direction.

God wants to show us what to do in our lives. He is waiting for us to ask Him. He will happily show us the right college or the right job. He especially wants us to marry the right person and lead our family in the right way. His Word promises us that if we ask Him for wisdom, He will give it to us abundantly. I am so glad that I prayed about college, a wife, and for my family. God has led me in His way, and it has been such a blessing for me and my family and for others. I recommend you do it, too.
