Standing Up for Another in Need
Often in life we have to face our trials alone. That makes it even more difficult to overcome them and to be victorious. If we just have one friend by our side, it makes it so much easier. Then, there are times when if we don't have another person to stand with us, we will not just be defeated, we could be attacked or be killed. This is why we need to be ready to go to the aid of anyone we see or anyone we know who needs our presence and assistance.
Jeremiah came to that point in his ministry more than once. His messages made the rulers and the people so angry since he was telling them about their sin and the coming destruction, that they were ready to kill him. (Jeremiah 26:24) One time when Jeremiah was so close to being killed, the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with him, so that the people would not put him to death. Ahikam made the difference between life and death for Jeremiah.
We need to always remember how much we need each other. We need to love other people whether we know them or not. We need to be ready to go to the aid of any person we see who is in danger. We need to be ready to go be a loving presence to anyone who is down, discouraged, and even suicidal. We could be the person who saves their life physically or spiritually or both. God is able to use us, if we will just be ready to give ourselves for others.
We can also be in the place of Jeremiah where we need a person to come and help us. At times we don't know where our help will come from. We just have to pray and to depend on God like Jeremiah did. Then, God will send the right person at the right time to stand with us for strength, protection, or comfort. God knows what we need and who we need. We just have to call on Him in faith.
