Teach Me
Some people get to the point in their lives where they stop learning. They simply start depending on what they have learned in the past, and they are satisfied to just get by on the bare minimum of the knowledge they need for life. As believers, that should never happen to us. We must be lifelong learners. There is no way for us to be faithful Christians unless we continue to learn from the Lord.
David knew that very well. He made that request a part of his morning prayers. (Psalm 143:10) David asked God to teach him His will, because He was his God. He knew God's Spirit was good. He asked for Him to lead him in the land of uprightness. That is a great outline for all of us to follow each day.
Most of the time God doesn't show us His exact will far in advance. He wants us to relate to Him on a daily basis, so we can learn from Him and go carry out His will in His way. Therefore, learning from God is essential to the Christian life. What have you learned from God lately, or what did He teach you this morning? If we stop learning we stop growing, and our use to God is limited.
The Spirit of God is good. He is in us to lead us in the land of uprightness. In other words the Spirit shows us how to live a righteous life in the midst of this evil world. God teaches, then the Spirit leads us and empowers us to do what God has taught us. That is God's process for making sure we know the things we need to know and do the things we need to do. Therefore, we have no excuse for not being obedient to God's will every day.
