Calling on God in Truth
Truth is something that is very misunderstood today. Some people think truth is relative. They think they can make up their own truth for themselves. That is never the case. Truth is absolute. There is only one truth for all people at all times in all places. God established truth from the very beginning, and Jesus told us He is the Truth. The Spirit is the Spirit of truth. We need to know the truth and live by it.
God inspired David to tell us a key to why truth is so important to us. (Psalm 145:18) He assured us that God is near to all who call upon Him. Then, he gave us the key. He is near to all who call upon God in truth. Therefore, we see that how we call upon God makes a huge difference in our lives, if we want God to be near us. Let's consider what God has told us here.
When we call upon the Lord, we have to do it according to who He is, not who we want Him to be. We can't make up our own version of God. That is an idol. We have to call upon Him as the holy, loving, gracious God, who always hates sin and punishes it, while having mercy on us by not punishing us as much as we deserve. When we call on Him in truth, we are praying in line with who He is. We are knowing that He can do anything except the wrong thing.
Also, when we call on the Lord in truth, we are praying in line with His will, and we are praying for His will to be done, not our own will. His will is based on His truth. Our will is based on our limited knowledge and ability. If we pray to God in falsehood or according to our flawed will, He will not be near to us. We have to fully submit to what God knows is best for us and for others. Then, He will be near to us.
