Infinite Understanding

There are some things that I understand very well. I can explain them in minute detail. There are other things that I don't understand, at all. Math is very hard for me to understand. My Dad would try to explain it to me, because he understood it very well, but I just could not get it. We all have these strengths and weaknesses in our ability to understand things. However, God doesn't ever have difficulty understanding anything.

The psalmist gave us an astounding truth about God's understanding. He gave us some examples of His ability to understand, like counting the stars and having a name for each one. (Psalm 147:5) Then he declared to all of us that our Lord is great, mighty in power, and infinite in understanding. Let that sink in for a minute. God's understanding has no limits.

God is eternal and infinite. He has no beginning or end. His power is eternal and there is never an end to His might. He never runs out of energy. He never has to sleep. He is never tired. Above all of that, though, is the fact that there is nothing that He doesn't understand completely, so that His understanding of it never ends. He can keep explaining things more and more without any end to His ability to explain it.

Isn't that a fantastic blessing for all of us? Our understanding is very limited, but "our" Lord has infinite understanding. Whenever we need to understand something, we can go to Him, and He can and will explain it to us. Notice, I said when we "need" to know something. There are some things we don't need to know or understand. Sometimes, we just need to trust Him and obey what God says. He knows what understanding we can handle and what we can't handle. He is good to give us just enough, so we can live for Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 150 and Proverbs 1-2.
