Keeping Our Eyes on His Hand
When someone is going to give us a present or something that we need, they usually hand it to us with their hand. Therefore, if we are expecting them to give us something, we are watching their hand to see what they will pull out. It is a waiting game, and we must be patient and attentive at the same time. This is much the same way it should be in our walk with God each day. We should keep our eyes on His hand.
The psalmist had a great way of explaining this truth. (Psalm 123:2) He exhorted all of us to keep our eyes on the Lord, like servants keep their eyes on the hand of their master, and as a maid keeps her eyes on the hand of her mistress. We should keep our eyes focused there until the Lord has mercy on us. We must do this to have what we need, because we can't provide what we need all on our own.
After all, we are servants of the Lord. God is the Master. He is in charge of everything. He owns everything, and He knows everything. We are the opposite. We are only stewards of what He gives us, and we have very limited knowledge and wisdom. If He doesn't extend His hand to us, we never have what we need. However, He is gracious and mercy to supply our needs as we look to Him in faith.
I am afraid that we get busy with life. We take our eyes off of Him, and we start looking at other people and other things to provide what we want, That is a far cry from looking to the Lord for what we need. It is like we want to be the masters of our lives. When we do that, and fail to look to God's hand to supply for us, we go without the things that are really important for life, and we replace them with things that don't really satisfy.
