How to Cleanse Our Way

Being clean is a very good thing. I know when I take a shower every morning it makes me feel so clean, awake, and ready for the day. It is healthy for us to stay clean, too. Of course, it adds to our appearance when people see that we have paid attention to our hygiene. Much can be said against being dirty or unclean. It makes us feel grimy. It makes us not want to be around other people who could see the dirt or smell our uncleanness. It is very unhealthy, and it is obviously not a good way to live.

There are also many things we could say about being spiritually clean and living in a way that is cleansed from the sins that ruin our lives. It is of great advantage for all of us to know how to cleanse our way of life from the filth of sin. The psalmist tells us how to do that. (Psalm 119:9) How can a young man, or anyone for that matter, cleanse his way? By taking heed according to the Word of God. What a practical truth for us to consider.

God's Word contains all of the spiritual soap that we need to cleanse our way. However, we have to read it, study it, and heed it, putting it into practice, to actually become cleansed. The first thing we must do is to put our trust in Jesus, who died and arose to free us from the stain of our sins. Then, we need to follow all of the commands of God's Word to walk in righteousness, instead of going back to the sins we lived in before our salvation. This takes following the whole Word of God and all of its counsel.

Then, we have to heed the Word of God to live out the good things, the clean things of life, and do it in the right way. We replace the wrong things with the right things, so we walk in the way of the Lord, not the ways of man and this world. When we come at it from both sides, we can be thoroughly cleansed and live in the way of the Lord. The clean way is the best way to live, and it keeps us out of so much trouble and destruction.
