Return to Your Rest

Sometimes we get our lives out of balance. Things don't go well, or we don't think things are going the way they should. It is then that we get restless. Our heart is burdened. Our mind is occupied trying to figure out what to do. Our emotions are up and down. We need to get back to the place where our soul can be at rest. That is what God wants for us, too.

The psalmist experienced this lack of rest. God showed Him what to do. (Psalm 116:7) He told his soul to return to its rest, because the Lord had dealt bountifully with Him. What was God showing him that we all need to see? Let's take a few moments to consider what God is saying to all of us.

There is no need to be restless in life. We need to stop and remember how bountifully God has dealt with us. When we see all of the blessings that God has poured out on us, we can know that He will continue to take care of us, not matter what is going on at that moment. We get restless when we only look at our circumstances, and we don't look at God and trust Him.

God has given us the information we need to bring our mind to a place of rest. We have His entire Word in the Bible. We just need to remember what He has given us and read it to settle us down to rest. He had shown us the way to go many times in the past, and therefore, we can know that He will show us again, as we rest in Him. Finally, our emotions can come to rest when we go by the facts of God, His Word, and our life. We have to stop going by our feelings, which will fool us and go by the facts that are solid. Then, our soul can be at rest and stay at rest.
