Under His Wings

I see articles that claim to know the best place to live or the best place to retire. I have read some of those articles, and they use various measures to make their lists. They talk about the economy, the crime rate, and the climate. However, I don't think any of them really know the best place to live. Like we always told our children, the best place to be is in the center of God's will. As for me, I want to abide under His wings.

Psalm 91 is one of the greatest psalms in my opinion. It gives us, as believers, so much comfort. (Psalm 91:1,4) The psalmist proclaims that if we dwell in the secret place of the Most High, we will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover us with His feathers, and under His wings we will take refuge. His truth will be our shield and buckler. What a picture of security in the Lord!

When I read these verses, I think of how the mighty eagles watch over their young. The parents are so strong, and they will do whatever it takes to defend their offspring with their sharp claws and pointed beak. They sit on top of the nest, and they cover their young with their feathers under their massive wings. That is how I feel as I abide in the secret place of the Most High. I just stay very close to Him.

Jesus spoke of the opposite situation when He approached Jerusalem. He cried out to them reminding them that often He would have gathered them under His wings like a mother hen gathers her chicks, but they would not come to Him. Now, that is a sad picture. The Lord is calling and waiting, but there are those who will not come to abide under His wings. We all have the choice. So where are you going to live your life?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 92-94.
