God's Attentive Mercy

I have noticed that I need to really be careful whatever it is that I am doing. I am usually in too big of a hurry, and that keeps me from being as careful as I should be. I have told myself to slow down and do things in a safe way. However, at the same time I am asking God to watch over me in all that I do. It is a great comfort to know He is always there for me. Still, I don't want to be careless.

I guess that is why this verse jumped out at me. It is a simple truth, and one that I needed. I pray it will speak to all of us. (Psalm 94:18) The psalmist said, "If I say, 'My foot slips,' Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up." I think we need to realize how close and attentive God is to our every need, so we can used to calling on Him for the smallest things.

We would think that God would be busy with all of the important business of the universe, so that He would not have time to watch us, but that is never true. God is an Attentive Father, watching over His children. He cares so much that He doesn't want us to stub our toe on a stone like another psalm says. He is there to hold us up, and carry us when needed. That is one of the blessings of the Holy Spirit, our Paraclete. He is always ready to come to our rescue.

When God responds to our call, it is His mercy that will hold us up. He will not come hollering at us that we should have been more careful. He will grab us and lift us up, not allowing us to get hurt. That is mercy when we deserved to suffer because we were not as careful as we should have been. Yes, He still teaches us lessons and at times our foot slips, but we are never out of His reach or out of His care.
