Light and Gladness
There are some things that make life better for us. Without these things we have troubles, and life is a strained existence. Just think about how life would be without light. We would have to go around in the dark, feeling our way around. There would be no way we could see colors, so everything would be black. Also, we need gladness. It lifts our hearts, and we do not just exist, but we are happy in what we do. God knows the impact of light and gladness on our lives.
Therefore, God is looking at our hearts to see if we are righteous and upright in heart. (Psalm 97:11) When he sees that we are living in righteousness, He sows light into our lives. When He sees that we are upright in heart, He sows gladness in our hearts. I believe that these are spiritual blessings that God gives His children as we strive to live in ways that please Him.
We all need spiritual light. We need to see things in the way God sees things. For us to do that, we need to listen to the Holy Spirit, and we need for God to shed His light upon us. That makes everything more clear to us. The more light we have, the more we can understand the deeper things of God. That is why He looks to see if we are righteous before He gives us more light. He wants to know that we will use what we learn in the right way.
The same is true for gladness. God sows gladness in the upright hearts as a reward for seeking to do His will. In fact, gladness is a result of being upright. When we keep God's laws that brings real gladness. God just keeps multiplying the gladness, as we keep walking in His ways. Then, when you put the light with the gladness, our lives get better and better the longer we live. Even when we have problems or suffering, God shines the light for us and gives us gladness in the midst of the storm.
