The Lord Pities His Children

It takes a lot of patience and compassion to raise children. They can be very helpless, and that causes us more work. They do not understand things well, so we have to be constantly explaining things to them. As parents, we have to allow for their limitations and work with them to learn and grow without being harsh. We have to pity them. Yes, that is a strong word, but it is true. They just can't do everything on their own. They need our help and direction.

When it comes to our relationship with God, it is the same way. God is our Father. As Christians, we are His children. (Psalm 103:13,14) "As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust." Aren't you glad always remembers, so that He pities us and treats us with compassion? I am very happy about this.

Some people see God as a very harsh task master who puts unreasonable expectations and demands on us. That is never the case. God is love, and He treats us with pity and mercy because of His love and wisdom. He knows we can't do things by ourselves, so He is there to guide us and empower us like the Good Father He is. Yes, He does expect things from us, and those things are impossible without His help, but He never fails to assist us when we depend on Him.

He knows us better than anyone else. He designed us and created us. He knows how we have to learn and grow up in life physically and spiritually. He remembers when He created Adam out of dust, so He knows our limited power. Therefore, He doesn't ever call on us to do anything that He knows we can't accomplish with His help. With His pity and compassion we grow stronger in Him until we are mature believers. Even then, we are just made of dust.
