Standing in the Breech

There are times in our lives when we find ourselves in a situation where we can come to the rescue of another person. It could be in a swimming pool or the ocean when we are in the right place to save another person from drowning. We could be in the right place to prevent an accident, so that we intervene to stop it from happening. These times present us with the personal responsibility to step into the breech and do our part to help.

That is what Moses did for the children of Israel in the wilderness when they had so rebelled against God that He was going to destroy them. (Psalm 106:23) Had not Moses, the chosen one of God, stood before God in the breech to turn away His wrath, God would have destroyed His people. That shows us the power of one person who stands before God to intervene for another person or group of people. We need to consider this very soberly.

Who do you know who is in danger of being destroyed by serious sins, by addictions, by personal problems, or other forces? What are you doing to stand before God in the breech for them? We need to have a list of people for whom we are the one who is in the right place at the right time to pray for their deliverance. We need to step up and take it as our responsibility because they are people who are made in God's image, and they are worth saving. Let's decide to do our part.

There is a very sad passage in Ezekiel 22:30. It says that God was looking for a man to stand in the gap for Israel, but He could not find a single person willing to pray for God to build a wall and save His people. Therefore, God ended up destroying them in that instance. Let's not fail to listen for God to call our name. Let's be the one who stands in the breech, and let's see what God is able to do.
