Overcoming the World

As Christians, we are living here in this world, but we are not to be "of this world." We are citizens of the kingdom of God. We are here for a short time, and then we will be with the Lord in heaven for eternity. What an honor and a privilege it is to be one of God's children and to be part of His kingdom. None of us should want to be polluted by the things of this world in any way.

The Bible is very clear about this. (I John 5:4) Whoever has been born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. God has given us everything we need to escape the corruption of this sinful world through our faith in Jesus. However, some believers surrender to this world and allow it to infect their lives. That should never happen.

God delivered us from the forces of Satan and the powers of this world when He forgave our sins and adopted us. We have His power to say no to the things of this world, and to say yes to His Spirit every time. The problem is that He doesn't force us to do that. We have to exercise our faith in Him, not just one time at salvation, but every day we live. When we live by faith in Him, we overcome the world.

When we slide back and put our trust in ourselves or others, we begin to be influenced by the forces of the devil and the things of this world. If we notice that we are being dragged down and getting upset by the events and happening around us, we need to draw near to God in faith and ask Him to give us the victory over those things, and He will do it. Let's decide to live in victory every day.
