The Spirit of the Lord

I am afraid we have the tendency, even as believers, to neglect the Person of the Holy Spirit. We know that God is the Sovereign, Creator of all, and we know that Jesus is the One and Only Savior and Lord, because of His perfect sacrifice for us as the God/Man. However, we  often don't appreciate the Spirit of the Lord the way we need to in order to be victorious Christians.

God wanted Zerubbabel, the leader of the Jews who returned from exile in Babylon to know this, so He gave His word to Zechariah, the prophet, to deliver to him. (Zechariah 4:6) God told Zerubbabel , "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, " says the Lord of armies. They needed to rebuild Jerusalem, but it would not come by manpower, but by God's power through the working of the Spirit.

The Spirit is God. He is eternal, all-wise, and all powerful. He doesn't want us to worship Him, but He points us to Jesus who is worthy of all of our praise and worship. However, He does want us to pay attention to Him. He knows we can't live a minute of the Christian life without His direction and power. If we will submit to Him, He will give us the words to say, and the strength to carry out God's will.

This is why we must submit to Him daily. We must ask Him to control us, guide us, and empower us. That is what it means to be filled with the Spirit. Then, we stay submitted all day long, listening to Him, so we say and do His will in His power. That is walking in the Spirit. When we do those two things, we will have the power to live the abundant Christian life, which we can't do in our own might and power.
