Taking Refuge in the Lord

We face a lot of opposition and enemies in our lives. It is not always people, but often we have people who are against us. They slander us, and they seek to harm us in various ways. At other times we just feel alone. We need someone to love us and to help us, but no one is around to do that. All of these things and more are reasons that we need to take our refuge in the Lord. He is waiting with open arms to receive us to Himself. He loves it when we draw close to Him and depend on Him. These things are why David wrote so many psalms. He poured out his feelings to the Lord. He told the Lord about his enemies and sought God's help. (Psalm 5:11-12) David had experienced God as his refuge, so he urged everyone to take refuge in the Lord and for them to rejoice in Him and shout for joy. He asked God to shelter all of them, and for those who love God to boast about Him to others. The reason for their boasting is that God blesses the righteous one and surrounds him with favor like a shield. That is David's admonition to all of us today.

Is the Lord your Refuge? Have you run to Him in time of need? If you have, you have found Him faithful and loving. Therefore, are you rejoicing in the Lord? Are you shouting for joy for all to hear your testimony of God's goodness. That is what all of us should be doing all of the time, because God is our Shelter. He does protect us from enemies. He is there for us when we are alone. When we run to Him, He meets our needs. He blesses us as we follow His will, and we are righteous. He surrounds us with His favor. God never fails us. when we turn to Him and we abide in Him. Therefore, let's not put our trust in other people to make us happy and to protect us. People will fail us, but God never will. Let's live in His shelter and rejoice, so everyone around us will find real happiness and contentment in Him.
