What to Do in a Crisis

What do we do when we have a sudden turn of events in our life, and that turn is for the worst? Some people panic. They get depressed, and they give up.  Others get angry, and they blame God for allowing such a thing to happen. Then, there are those who simply rebel and start behaviors that are very detrimental, like drinking, drugs or abusive behavior. None of those things are the right solution, no matter who we are. However, there is a solid response for those of us who are righteous; we know the Lord, and we are walking in His ways. Job found this way, and he practiced it all through his suffering. (Job 17:9) He knew that no matter what happened to him, even though his name had become a byword, and others spit on him, he would hold to his way. He would keep holding on to his righteousness and the right things he had been doing. He knew that if he had clean hands, God would make him stronger and stronger. What a truth for all of us!

When the storms of life come, we must not let them shake us up. If we know Jesus, He is our firm foundation. Our life is built on the Rock, so the storm will not destroy us. However, we could destroy ourselves, if we fail to keep trusting the Lord and holding on to the way of righteousness. We must not let the flesh take over. We must keep thinking, talking, and acting as we have learned from the Lord and His Word. When we do that, the storm will actually make us stronger and stronger, because we will trust the Lord more and more. We will listen for the Spirit, even closer. We will exercise our faith, and our faith will grow. That is what Job did. He never cursed God, or quit believing in Him for a minute. He had hope, because He knew God would honor his righteousness. He knew he would grow stronger and stronger.
