Life is Short and Full of Turmoil

When we think of living 70 or 80 years, it seems like that would be a long time. However, after living almost that long, I have found that it is not really very long at all. It passes quickly, and even more quickly the closer we get to the end. Job knew that, and he expressed it in his suffering. (Job 14:1-2) He said that life is short and full of turmoil. It is like a flower that comes forth and withers. It is like a shadow that flees and does not remain. It would help each of us to consider this fact, no matter how young or old we are right now.

If we think we have a long time to live, we will be tempted to put off doing things that are very important. We will involve ourselves in things that do not really matter much. We will neglect to show love and build relationships with others, as we should. Let's stop doing that. Let's decide to live every day like it is our last day. Life is full of turmoil. There are many challenges at every age we find ourselves. We have to learn to grow and trust the Lord to get us through the turmoil, while not missing the joys of life, too. After all when we know the Lord, and we are walking in the Spirit, we can have His joy in all circumstances. Yes, the flower will wither. We will become wrinkled and older looking on the outside, but on the inside, we can be renewed every day. Our lives may be fleeing like a shadow that fades, but we can be busy doing the will of God each step of the way, until we are with Him. The key is to realize how each day is so precious and use each one to the fullest.
