Treasuring God's Words

The Bible is the very words of God. Think about that. The Creator of the universe has inspired men to write down His words so we can have them. Isn't that the greatest revelation of God possible? I believe it is. The Bible is a love letter from God to all people, and we should treasure it. It should not just be a book to read on occasion. If we treasure it, we should count it a great privilege to feast on it often. Job knew this. (Job 23:12) I believe it is one reason he was so confident of his righteous standing before God. He did not depart from the commands of His mouth, and he treasured God's words more than his necessary food. That is a challenge for all of us, as believers, today.

We need to know the commands of God. The obvious way to know His commands is to know the Bible. It just makes sense that all of the commands of God that we need to know to live a godly life are recorded in His Word. As we read the whole Word of God, we should mark them or in some way record these commands, so we can live by them. How can we do that well? We must treasure the words of God more than our daily food. I eat 3 or 4 times a day. If I don't eat food regularly, I get weak and very hungry. For me, the same is true for the Words of God. I eat them every day. They are more important than physical food. They contain the food that leads us to a blessed eternity with the Lord. They show us how to live, so we can confidently stand before God at the Judgment Day. That day will come for all of us, so we better heed His words and cherish them more than our regular food.
