Our Limited Understanding

There is no way we, as human beings, will ever understand everything in this world and this universe. Sometimes, we get the idea that through science we can learn the answers to everything. That is never the case. In fact, we have seen science come up with the wrong answers many times and have to change their conclusions. Then, how do we know that the new conclusion is totally correct? We don''t really. Solomon made this point very effectively when he proclaimed that as we will never understand the mystery of life being formed in the womb of a pregnant woman, neither will we ever understand the mystery at work in all that God does. (Ecclesiastes 11:5) This might bother those people who want to have certainty in their own minds about everything. However, it should be a great comfort to all of us. Let me explain.

God is God, and we are His creation. God is unlimited in power, wisdom, and love. We will never be God. We will always be limited in our understanding, since we will never have all wisdom and knowledge. However, God has given us almost all we need to know in His Word, the Bible. Also, He can and will show us anything else we need to understand in our lives, as we pray and listen to His Spirit directing us. Therefore, we do not need to worry about completely understanding all of the work of God. All we need to do is to trust in the Lord Jesus, follow His Word, and accept the truth of God as He reveals it to us. That is God's will for all of us. While science can't be certain of everything, we can be certain of what God gives us, and that is all we need to understand.
