One in a Million!
The Song of Solomon is a love song written about Solomon and his first wife. Yes, he had more wives, and that displeased God very much, but he had a special relationship with his first wife, like the relationship we should have with our one spouse. I believe God inspired this short book to be written and preserved for all of us to see how special our marital relationship should be. As Solomon's wife explained her heart for him, she said that "He's one in a million. There's no one quite like him." (Song of Solomon 5:10) I am convinced that is how we all should feel, and it is actually the truth, if we marry the person God prepared for us. Please, let me explain.
We may be handsome or beautiful, but that is not the main attribute of a good spouse. Our focus should be on finding God's choice for us. Yes, I know that we could choose to marry any number of people, and we could be happy, because God would honor our marriage covenant and help us grow together in a healthy way. However, I believe God has a perfect will for us in all of our life choices. (Romans 12:2) If that is the case, then there is the perfect spouse for each of us, who are supposed to be married. When we find that person, our love will be so strong that we will see him or her as one in a million, just for us. We will know there is no one quite like this person, because he or she was prepared by God just for us. Then, we will appreciate them even more, and we will realize their personality perfectly compliments ours, so we can and will complete each other, if we will allow the Spirit to guide us in all we do. I believe that is God's design for marriage, and it is his will for all of us, who get married.
