Why are You Down in the Dumps, Dear Soul?

Korah wrote some of  the psalms in the book of Psalms, as he was inspired by God. In Psalm 42 he asks a great question. I am not sure if he was addressing the question to another person or to his own soul. (Psalm 42:11) Either way, it is a question for all of us to consider. Why do we get down in the dumps? Why do we sing the blues? We all need to find out why, so we can correct this problem. God doesn't want any of His children to stay in the dumps. Let's see what He wants us to do.

When we get down, we are looking down. We are looking at our problems. We are looking at all of the troubles of this world, but we are not looking up at the Lord. The cure for the blues is to fix our eyes on God. Yes, I know we can't see God physically, but we can keep the eyes of our heart on Him. That means we focus on the Lord and His perfect attributes, so we know He is able to deliver us from anything we face. We focus on the salvation Jesus provided for us by the cross and the resurrection. We look up to heaven, realizing God loves us, and Jesus is preparing a place for us with Him for eternity. When we fix our eyes on the Lord, soon, we will be praising again. He will put a smile on our face. All of this is not only possible, but very real, because He is our God. He loves us, and we are totally safe in His loving arms. So I ask, "Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul?
