Being in God's Presence

I believe many people have a misconception of what it will be like to enter the presence of the Lord. It seems that some people think they will run up to the throne and talk to God like an old friend. Others believe they will be so filled with joy that they will dance around the throne and look for Jesus. I am sure we will worship the Lord around His throne, and I know He is our friend. Yes, Jesus is our Savior, and I want to see Jesus, too. However, think about the times the Lord appeared to people on earth. What happened first? They were taken back by His glory, and they were afraid of Him. Why is that? God's glory and power are so much greater than anything we know, His presence instills fear in us, and we have a very healthy respect for Him that calls for us to totally submit to Him. The psalmist knew this when he wrote that the Earth should tremble before the Lord. (Psalm 114:8) He knew that every person, and even all of creation will fear the Lord when we enter His presence. After all, God is the One who caused the Rock in the wilderness to become a pool of cool water. He took flint that we use to make a fire, and He turned it into fresh spring water. What an awesome God we serve. This is the God of Jacob, the One true God.

I hope will all realize first and foremost that God is the Lord of all. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He is eternally All-powerful and All-wise. There is nothing He can't do, except the wrong thing. He is so above us in every way that He told Moses that Moses could not stand to look upon Him or he would die. That is why God put him in the cleft of the rock and covered him with His hand, so Moses could see just a little of God's glory as He passed by. When we come into God's presence here on Earth, it is nothing like it will be in heaven. Of course, when we see Him in heaven, we will have our glorified body, and we will be able to stand before Him. However, we will still be overwhelmed by His power and majesty, and we will worship Him fully, because will will have the proper fear of the Lord.
