If I Die, I Die

The life of Esther got very stressful, when Haman, the king's top aid, decided to wipe out all of the Jews, since Mordecai would not bow to him, and Mordecai was a Jew. He won the king's approval to set aside a day to kill all of the Jews, and Haman even paid for the expenses. When the word went out, Mordecai and all the Jews mourned greatly. Esther heard about the mourning and asked Mordecai what was happening. He told her about the murderous plan and told her to approach the king to call it off. There was just one huge problem. She was not to go to the king without him calling her, and if she did, she could be killed. Esther asked for Mordecai to call a fast for her, not eating or drinking for 3 days and nights. Then, she would go into the king, and if she died, she died. (Esther 4:15,16) I wonder how many of us have the same commitment as Esther to carry out God's will in dangerous circumstances?

Life is full of danger. We have to decide what to do all of the time. Our decisions are made for various reasons. Sometimes, we decide to act in a safe way to protect our health. At other times, we decide to act in a way to bring us pleasure, even if the behavior is risky and could cause us harm or get us in trouble. Some of us, as believers, will even decide to lie or to remain silent if we believe we could be persecuted or harmed. I do not believe we should base our choices on any of those things. We should be sure we know God's will from His Word or His directions to us, and then, we should do it, even if it leads to death. After all, "to live is Christ and to die is gain."(Philippians 1:21) What better way to die, than to be doing God's will to help another person to come to Christ or to save someone's life? When we die, we will give an answer for all we did in our lives. I pray we will not be ashamed to face Jesus because of our bad decisions, deciding not to obey His will to save us from any pain or suffering. Instead, I pray we all hear that we have done well, because we followed our Savior into suffering for Him, as He suffered to set us free from our sins.
