Explaining the Mystery of God

If you find someone who says they have a perfect understanding of everything about God, run from him. None of us are able to explain the mystery of God. This is one of the great paradoxes of the Christian faith. We can know God intimately through trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but we will never fully understand God. It was Job's friend, Zophar, who pointed out this reality. He questioned anyone who thought they could explain the mystery of God or diagram God. He asserted correctly that God is far higher than we can imagine and far deeper than we can comprehend. (Job 11:7,8) Let's make sure we all know how unsearchable the mystery of God is for us.

God is far beyond the comprehension of any human being. He is the Eternal, All-wise, All-loving God of the universe. He has no equal in any area of His character or ability. God has to reveal His mystery to us so we can understand it to a certain degree, but never will we fully be able to explain God. We can never diagram God, put Him in a box, or give a very succinct account of every facet of His nature. The reason for this is simple. God is higher than we can imagine. In other words, we do not have mental capacity to even imagine the heights of God's wisdom, power, and perfection. We do not have the ability to plumb the depths of God's thinking or His great plan for all of us on this earth. We must humbly accept these facts, and decide to receive His revelations of Himself to us through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit so that we are satisfied, because He always shows us enough of Himself, but not all of Himself. We should continually seek God with all of our heart, so He will reveal more and more of Himself, and we can know Him better and better.
