They Shall Share Alike.
Sharing is a hard practice for most of us. This is especially true when we have worked very hard for something. We feel entitled to have all of it for ourselves and not to share at all. It is even difficult for some of us to share with those in our family, our church, or our team. We ought to realize that we should share with those who strive with us in the work of the family or of the kingdom. David taught the Israelites this lesson after they won the victory against the Amalekites and rescued their family members, plus receiving many spoils from their defeated enemies. (I Samuel 30:24) Let me explain, briefly.
David took 600 men to recover their families, but along the way 200 men were so tired, they stopped to rest and protect the supplies. The 400 men who proceeded, won a great victory, and they actually took the spoils of the battle. Then, they did not want to share, but David told them, it was always right to share alike with those who stayed by the supplies. They were all one army, one team, so it was a group victory. The same is true for any family or church. We are in the work of life and the kingdom of God together. We should always share what God provides with all. Without teamwork and cooperation, we would not have very many victories in life. Without some to support those who fight, they would often fall short, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 1-3.
