King David's Mission from the Lord
After the death of Saul, David was anointed king over the tribe of Judah, but Saul's son was king over the rest of the tribes. Abner was the leader of the armies of Israel, while Joab was the head of David's army for Judah. Abner became upset with Saul's son, Ishbosheth, the king, and decided to turn over the whole kingdom to David. He decided to side with David, because the Lord had spoken about His plans for David to deliver all Israel from the Philistines and all their other enemies. (II Samuel 3:18) David had a mission from God and so does every believer today.
When we are saved, God has a plan for our lives. (Ephesians 2:10) He has good works laid out for us to do, if we will only obey Him and depend on His power. Then, we can accomplish God's mission for us. If we do God's will and accomplish his plans, instead of our own plans, we will receive a great reward when we stand before God. The reward is not so important, but finding great favor with God is priceless. I would urge each of us to give up our own pride and desires to do what we want. Let's be focused on the mission of God set before us. Then, we will really accomplish much in life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 4-6.
