Walk Before Me and Be Blameless

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to him once more and gave him a command about how he should live. (Genesis 17:1) I am sure it would do us all good to heed this command.

God told Abram to walk before Him. Now, I know we are not supposed to get ahead of God, and we can't lead Him around. Therefore, I think it is clear that God is commanding Abram to stay close to Him and to walk in His ways. When we walk before someone, we are close enough for them to see all that we are doing and to examine our life. I am convinced that many people do not walk before the Lord, because they go places and do things that God would never participate in. Even believers are on their own when they engage in those sinful behaviors. However, when we walk before God, we stay on track with where He desires for us to go.

Also, God told Abram to be blameless. That simply means not to live a life that brings blame or shame on Himself and his family. This does not mean that God was commanding Abram to be prefect. None of us can be perfect, but we can be blameless. We can do God's will in His power, and when we fail, we can make it right with God and others, so people still can't blame us for doing wrong, because we have sought forgiveness and restoration.

When Almighty God sees us walking before Him and being blameless, it makes Him rejoice. I pray that we will bring a smile to the face of God when He watches how we live.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 18-20.
