Let There Be No Strife

We live in a world of strife. Communities have strife, families have strife, and churches have strife. That is not God's will. It is an especially serious sin when the strife is between physical family members or between spiritual family members. Abram set the example for us long ago in his dealings with his nephew, Lot. (Genesis 13:8,9) We need to follow his example.

The land did not have enough resources to support all of Abram and Lot's people and flocks. Because of that, strife arose between the herdsmen of Abram and Lot. Quickly Abram acted to put an end to the conflict. He proclaimed to Lot that there should be no strife between them or their herdsmen, because they we brothers. They were family, and they were fellow believers in the One True God. Then, Abram gave Lot his choice of the land. This was a very unselfish act of love. Abram valued peace among the brethren more than his prosperity or preferences.

We must put an end to strife between us and our family members and our fellow believers. We must do it quickly, and we must do it unselfishly. Even if we have to take less for ourselves, we must do what it takes to end the strife and promote unity. This was God's will in the beginning, and it will always be God's will. Let's decide once and for all not to have strife between us and others, so that we do our part establish good relationships. God will bless us when we do that.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 15-17.
