The Pure and Eternal Word of God

David had great insights into the Lord and His Word. He knew that God's Word was pure and eternal.(Psalm 12:6,7) We would all do well to consider his description of the Word of the Lord.

First, the Word of the Lord is pure like silver purified in a furnace seven times. Silver was heated in a furnace until the impurities separated from the silver and drained away. Seven is the number of perfection, so by the seventh time, it was completely pure, without anything bad or foreign mixed in. Isn't that a great picture of God's Word? It is pure, because it is all truth with no mixture of error.

Then, David tells us that God preserves His Word from the time it is written to all generations, forever. When God inspired the men to write the Bible, it was established as God's Word. Then, God preserved it for all generations. It always stands as God's eternal Word to us. It never changes or goes out of date.

All of this adds up to the fact that we can trust the Word of God to be true and always relevant to what we need in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 13-16.
