One Blessed Man

We do not associate Job with his blessings, but with his problems. That is because we are short-sighted. His losses seem so great to us that we stop to focus on them. However, Job was one blessed man.(Job 42:10,16,17; Psalm 1:1) Let's see just how greatly God blessed Job in the end.

God restored all of Job's losses after he prayed for his friends, as God asked him to do. In fact, God gave him twice the possessions he had before his trials. Job lived 140 more years, and he saw the children and grandchildren of his seven sons and three daughters for four generations. Then, he died old and full of days. God is so good. Yes, Job suffered greatly, but God was faithful to bless him abundantly at the end of his life. Just think of how amazed everyone would have been to see how God treated Job after they thought God had forsaken him. Think of Job's testimony about God's faithfulness. Think of how Job's faith was strengthened. It was all worth the pain and grief to fully see God and know His character of holiness and grace.

Then, when we flip the page and start Psalm 1, we just have to smile broadly. Job was one blessed man, because he never walked in the counsel of the ungodly. He never stood in the path of sinners. He never sat in the seat of the scornful. God will bless any of us who trust Him and follow Him closely every day. Try Him and see that He is more than faithful.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 3-5.
